چکیده

Drawing on models from foraging theory, many researchers have used assemblages of animal bones from archaeological sites to document cases of resource depression and reduced foraging efficiency. This paper presents a model of central place forager prey choice that unifies several issues that these previous studies have addressed through the use of separate models. In comparison to the models usually employed, the model presented here makes assumptions that more closely match the ways in which human hunting is often carried out, and it also makes it easier to determine how decisions about the processing of prey at their point of capture will combine with decisions about prey choice to influence overall foraging efficiency for central place foragers. The benefits that arise from the use of such a model are illustrated by applying it to archaeofaunal data from the Mimbres Valley, southwestern New Mexico, where it appears that people experienced depression of large mammal resources, and declining hunting efficiency, during the period between about AD 400 and AD 1200. 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). The Present study carried out on the bone samples collected from Roopkund Lake in Chamoli Garhwal, Uttarakhand, which is located 5029 meters from main sea level in between Nanda Ghunghti and Trishuli peak. This historical site belongs to the 9th century A.D.  All the samples selected for the study were dried in room temperature, as well as in hot air ovens at 32 degree Celsius. The Cleaning, pr...

Application of glauconite and fossil palynomorphs in reconstructing the Liassic paleogeography just before the opening of the Gulf of Mexico

Red beds, conglomerates and salt were considered azoic and problematic rocks, but Paleopalynology and Inorganic Geochemistry proved to be useful for placing them in time and space. In the early last century, in Mexican NE region, only three Mesozoic red bed units were differentiated, dated as Late Triassic to Late Jurassic. It was important tratigraphically to place them properly as they were c...

Large Mammal Relative Abundance in Pithouse and Pueblo Period Archaeofaunas from Southwestern New Mexico: Resource Depression among the Mimbres-Mogollon?

Archaeologists working in western North America have recently demonstrated temporal declines in the relative abundances of large mammals in archaeofaunal assemblages and have argued that these declines indicate resource depression, or reductions in the prey capture rates of prehistoric human hunters resulting from increases in harvest pressure. In the MimbresMogollon region of southwestern New ...
